Layered Double Hydroxide-Derived Intermetallic Ni<sub>3</sub>GaC<sub>0.25</sub> Catalysts for Dry Reforming of Methane

A NiMgGa-layered double hydroxide (NMG-LDH) is synthesized as an efficient catalyst precursor for dry reforming of methane (DRM). NMG-LDH converted to intermetallic Ni3Ga/MgO upon reduction. Compared a monometallic Ni/MgO prepared from NiMg-LDH, the exhibits high CH4 (∼48%) and CO2 (∼52%) conversions well excellent stability against coking during DRM. The reversible phase transition between Ni3Ga Ni3GaCx demonstrated by in situ characterizations with interstitial carbon being involved catalytic cycle DRM produce CO H2. According density functional theory calculations experimental study, LDH-derived Ni3GaC0.25 when atoms dissociated penetrate into octahedral interstices lattice at 600 °C. formed proven effective converting rapidly suppress its conversion coke, thus improving catalyst.
